Drone roof survey in Carterton
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. If you’ve noticed gaps where slates or tiles have gone and lifted or split lead flashings, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on chimney stacks, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs alike.
In a town like Carterton, the roofs that are hardest to see are often on taller buildings, steep slopes or the backs of terraces. A drone can take close-up photos of them, and thermal imaging can show patterns of heat loss or trapped moisture. Each needs the right weather, so the date is set with the forecast in mind. A typical example is the rear slope over a back addition, which can’t be seen from the street.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It is useful straight away, and a good reference for later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Different roofs, different checks
Large commercial roofs
Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. A drone keeps everyone off them.
Ridges and hips
Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.
When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- A structural engineer’s report
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Carterton
Carterton is about 2 miles from RAF Brize Norton, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. The wider area around Carterton has a long history of building, with Minster Lovell Hall about 3.5 miles north-east. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
If you look after a building like Carterton Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you live in an older home near St John the Evangelist, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Tips that help
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
DIY checks: what’s safe
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Questions from Carterton
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Carterton?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you carry out roof surveys in Carterton?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and Carterton is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Are you insured?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The flight waits for better weather. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so a new date is agreed with you.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your survey before you book. For a price, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?
Yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and follow the drone code.
What we do, step by step
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. A typical survey takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Most visits in a town like Carterton start at the front of the house and work round to the back. Rear gardens and side paths often give the best view of extensions and back slopes. Then, if it can be reached safely, we look in the loft.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Tell us about parking before the day
