Drone roof survey in Abingdon-on-Thames: what you get

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone will not help on your roof, we will say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. Common reasons to book are hidden gutters full of leaves and ridge pieces that have lifted, across large and complex roofs, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.

For a town like Abingdon-on-Thames, every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map, including zones around airports and prisons. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). We take care over neighbours’ privacy. In the open category, flights stay under 120 m (400 ft) with the drone in sight.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Abingdon-on-Thames

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. West Oxfordshire’s older buildings often carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.

Hotels and guest houses near Abingdon-on-Thames can’t easily close rooms for a leak, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Clifton Hampden Manor lies about 3.5 miles south-east, so building around Abingdon-on-Thames goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

How we price drone roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Height and safe access
  • Roof area
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Which survey package you book

To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the roof. We’ll confirm the figure before booking.

Getting in touch

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • What made you get in touch

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What this survey cannot tell you

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

Common roof problems in Abingdon-on-Thames

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots

Take a building like St Nicolas Church of England Primary School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • What experience they bring

What’s in a roof survey

What we do, step by step

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a home in Abingdon-on-Thames, the main things we need are a way into the loft, a route to the back garden and somewhere to park. If you won’t be there yourself, let us know who will let us in.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before we arrive

  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch

Advice

Can I check my roof myself?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Tips from our surveys

There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

FAQs for Abingdon-on-Thames

How do I find out if my home in Abingdon-on-Thames is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Do you cover Abingdon-on-Thames?

Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Abingdon-on-Thames is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and some details.

What will the report tell me?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What if my home is near an airport?

It depends on the airspace at your address. Inside a flight restriction zone, we need permission first, which can add time. Book early if you think you may be affected.

Can a drone see inside my loft?

No. It shows what’s on the outside. The underside tells us things the drone can’t, so we inspect the loft space as well where access is safe.

How fast do I get the report?

It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.
