Drone roof survey in Grove: what you get
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. Common reasons to book are lifted or split lead flashings and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, on chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs.
Around Grove, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

What happens on the day
After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a written report with photographs. As for time on site, it typically takes about one to two hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. In a smaller place like Grove, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can frequently be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it is safe.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Leave it or get it looked at?
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is. On a bungalow or cottage around Grove, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.
One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

FAQs for Grove
Do you cover smaller places like Grove?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Grove?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
How long will you be at the property?
The visit normally takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We’ll confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.
Can you fly a drone near an airport?
Sometimes, with permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, where the airport or air traffic control must give permission first. If permission is not given, the roof is inspected from other safe viewpoints.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
Will you photograph next door’s garden?
We point the camera at your roof only. Next door’s windows and gardens are kept out of shot as far as possible. It helps to tell neighbours beforehand.
Are you registered with the CAA?
Yes. We are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and keep it in sight at all times.
Tips that help
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly, alongside the other checks in the package.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside often shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.
Drone roof surveys around Grove
England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St. John the Baptist, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

For landlords and managing agents
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.
What this survey can’t tell you
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.
What we check
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Flat roofs on upper floors
Signs you need a drone roof survey in Grove
The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are frequently invisible from below. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.
People typically book a survey after spotting one of these:
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
If you look after a building such as Millbrook Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether VAT is added on top
- What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
