Drone roof surveys in Denchworth

How a drone roof survey works in Denchworth

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there’s safe access, we look in the roof space too, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there is no safe loft access, the report says so. If you’re worried about loose ridge and hip tiles and lead work pulling away at abutments, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Somewhere as small as Denchworth, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. In a small place like Denchworth, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

Why us?

  • Plain-English reports with photos
  • Clear package prices, inc. VAT
  • Two decades and more of roof surveys
  • Drones and thermal imaging where it applies

What you can safely check yourself

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Questions from Denchworth

Will you come out to Denchworth?

Yes, we do. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Is drone flying allowed in Denchworth?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Do I need to be at home?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when booking.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

How many surveys have you done?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.

How soon will I get the report?

Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.

What we cannot see

Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

Drones, thermal imaging and Denchworth roofs

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.

The streets around a church such as Church of St James are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. Historic houses such as Longworth House, about 4.7 miles north, show how far back building around Denchworth goes. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

What we do, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Around Denchworth, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before we arrive

  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Point out any leaks or damp patches

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You can’t see it from the street at all, but it is plain to see from the air.

Large commercial roofs

Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
