About our drone roof survey in Charney Bassett

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. Common reasons to book are ridge and hip pieces working loose and lifted or split lead flashings, on tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs.

Older buildings in small places like Charney Bassett may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

The survey, step by step

On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you’d like to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. The survey usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like Charney Bassett, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Advice

What this survey cannot tell you

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks

Checking the roof from the ground

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

Why get it checked now?

It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photographs of every part we can see. You can tackle the urgent items first. Around Charney Bassett, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.

To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details. We will confirm the figure before booking.

What you get with us

  • Two decades and more of roof surveys
  • PI and public liability insurance
  • Surveys seven days a week
  • An independent view of the roof

What a drone roof survey looks like in Charney Bassett

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire frequently have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

Longworth House lies about 2.9 miles north, so building around Charney Bassett goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Peter, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Charney Bassett is about 4 miles north of Wantage, in Oxfordshire. Anywhere in Charney Bassett, we can carry out drone roof surveys at your property, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday. Our area takes in places right across Oxfordshire, large and small. There is also a page for Oxford.

What affects the price in Charney Bassett

Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Which survey package you book
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • The roof’s overall size

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

What we need to know

If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Any deadline, like an exchange date

Roof by roof

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. Their condition is noted in the report.

Questions from Charney Bassett

How do I find out if my home in Charney Bassett is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Yes, Charney Bassett is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

What does the report include?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photos throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We note visible signs like sagging or deflection, but we do not carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
