Drone roof survey in Clanfield, Oxfordshire
Drone roof surveys in Clanfield, backed by more than 20 years’ experience. Every survey ends with a written report and photographs.
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
What happens if roof problems are left?
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. In a place like Clanfield, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, access and which survey you book.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Clanfield
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. If you are worried about cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and moss and weeds taking hold up top, we can find out what’s behind it.
Somewhere as small as Clanfield, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Drones, thermal imaging and Clanfield roofs
Clanfield is about 3 miles from RAF Brize Norton, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. Historic houses such as Kelmscott Manor, about 2.7 miles south-west, show how far back building in the area around Clanfield goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs.
The streets around a church like Church of St Stephen are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

FAQs for Clanfield
Is Clanfield within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Clanfield?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We carry out surveys seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
How many surveys have you done?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
Are you registered with the CAA?
We are. Our Flyer ID and Operator ID come from the CAA, and we fly a drone that weighs under 250g, kept within sight on every flight.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Can a drone see inside my loft?
No. The drone sees the roof from outside only. For the underside, we check the loft where it can be reached safely.
Common roof problems in Clanfield
After storms, owners want to know what has moved. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
Anyone responsible for a site like Clanfield CofE Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Before booking anyone
- When you’ll get the report
- What exactly goes into their report
- Their insurance cover
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
How the survey works
We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older rural homes like those around Clanfield can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
Getting a price
Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us some details about the property and we’ll recommend the right survey. The price is agreed up front.
Advice
Useful tips for Clanfield property owners
You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.
Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
