How a drone roof survey works in Weald

Drone roof surveys are available in Weald and throughout London and the South East, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and people most often book us about worn lead at chimneys and walls and ridge pieces that have lifted.

Somewhere as small as Weald, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

Weald questions

Is drone flying allowed in Weald?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Weald is about 3 miles from RAF Brize Norton, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

Will you come out to Weald?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

What’s the best way to book?

It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or email us. Let us know the address and a little about the roof. We survey on weekdays and at weekends.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only if it is safe. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Does someone need to be in?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when you book.

What does the report include?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.

Are you insured?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

DIY checks: what’s safe

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Weald

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords, from shops and offices to industrial units. Larger roofs take longer.

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.

Tips that help

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:

  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather

There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.

What happens on the day

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Weald, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • The roof’s overall size
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Building height and the viewpoints available

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

Booking your survey

You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just tell us:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Anything about access we should know

To book a survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.

What this survey cannot tell you

Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey won’t do:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

Drone roof surveys around Weald

RAF Brize Norton is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. West Oxfordshire’s older buildings often carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Kelmscott Manor, about 4.2 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Weald. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof itself. If you look after a building like Bampton CofE Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Weald is about 4 miles south-east of Carterton, in Oxfordshire. Bookings from Weald are handled just like any other: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. Weald is one of the towns and villages in Oxfordshire we cover. Our Oxford page covers surveys nearby.
