Banstead questions

Is Banstead within the area you cover?

Yes, Banstead is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Is drone flying allowed in Banstead?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Does the weather affect the survey?

It depends on the weather and the survey. In strong wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, and we’d agree another day.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed when you book.

What’s the best way to book?

To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Drone roof survey in Banstead: what you get

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. Everything we find goes into a report with photographs. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight is not possible, we explain why. If you’re worried about cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and blocked valleys and parapet gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Even in a smaller place like Banstead, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Open ground can mean stronger wind, which also affects whether a small drone can fly. Each flight is planned with neighbours’ privacy in mind, as well as the airspace and the wind.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Flying and imaging in Banstead

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.

With Nonsuch Mansion about 2.7 miles north-west, the area around Banstead has a long history. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Take a building like St Anne's Catholic Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near The Ashley Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera.

Tips from our surveys

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:

  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys, and they help if you sell.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Landlords, agents and building managers in Banstead and across Surrey can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

If you own several properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To arrange surveys for several addresses, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.

Roof by roof

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.

How it works

Photos are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. A visit to a smaller place like Banstead is no different on the day: we look from the ground, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it’s safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Check pets are kept safely away

How to book

If you are buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.

Advice

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs

What happens if roof problems are left?

Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. Arranging work in a smaller place like Banstead is easier with notice than in an emergency. Knowing early gives you time to get the right people in.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.
