Drone roof survey in Shanklin Village

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. If you’ve noticed flashings that have come away and vegetation in valleys and gutters, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Shanklin Village as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

What a survey costs

To price your survey, we look at:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • Roof area
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, from £400 including VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Helping us price your survey

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

How the survey works

On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely. Most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a visit in Shanklin Village, parking and access are the things to plan: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. On the day, the roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Tell us about parking before the day
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

Drones, thermal imaging and Shanklin Village roofs

Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Shanklin Village, along with any off-street space. If you live in an older home near Church of St John, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Shanklin Village questions

How do I find out if my home in Shanklin Village is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Is parking a problem for a survey in Shanklin Village?

London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway when you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.

Do you cover Shanklin Village?

Yes, we do. We carry out drone roof surveys in Shanklin Village.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

What happens next?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Are there drone restrictions in central London?

In some places, only with permission. Restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs need NATS permission before a flight. We check each address first, and fall back on other viewpoints if we cannot fly.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Shanklin Village. To discuss a property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Shanklin Village?

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the surface area by area. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:

  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone

For businesses in and around places such as The Ashley Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help most.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone

What to expect from a roof survey

When you need someone else

Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey won’t do:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.
