Drone roof survey in Bedgebury Cross
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. We will tell you if another approach would work better. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are plant growth and moss on the roof and loose ridge and hip tiles.
In a small place like Bedgebury Cross, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photo. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Why it is worth a survey now in Bedgebury Cross
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. In a place like Bedgebury Cross, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Flying and imaging in Bedgebury Cross
Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
Scotney Castle, about 1.8 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Bedgebury Cross. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.

Before and after the survey
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.
Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.
What we are asked to look at in Bedgebury Cross
Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.
Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed something like this:
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
The streets around a church like Christ Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Will the report include photos?
- What insurance they carry
- Is VAT included in the price?
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
Common questions in Bedgebury Cross
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Bedgebury Cross?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Do you cover smaller places like Bedgebury Cross?
Yes. Bedgebury Cross is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.
Does the weather affect a drone survey?
Strong wind or heavy rain stops a flight. Whether we can fly depends on the conditions on the day. If it is unsuitable, we’ll agree another date.
Will the drone film my neighbours?
Privacy is taken seriously on every flight. We photograph your roof, not your neighbours’ property. It’s worth telling neighbours about the flight.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Can a drone see inside my loft?
No. The drone sees the roof from outside only. For the underside, we check the loft where it can be reached safely, as damp and daylight often show there first.
Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?
Our drone survey is about close-up photographs. If you need thermal imaging, it’s part of the Premium Survey, as a separate check.
What we do, step by step
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older rural homes like those around Bedgebury Cross can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before the survey
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Note where any stains or damp appear
Getting a price
Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Advice
How the survey changes by roof type
Large commercial roofs
Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.
Ridges and hips
The ridge takes wind from both sides. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.
