Drone roof survey in Blackmore: what you get
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, since that is where leaks and condensation often show first. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and people most often book us about lifted or split lead flashings and moss building up on slopes and in gutters.
Somewhere as small as Blackmore, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

What this survey cannot tell you
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- A structural engineer’s report
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
Roof types and parts we check
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
Prices for drone roof surveys in Blackmore
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- The size of the roof
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.
Getting in touch
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- When you need the report by
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
When you’re ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. We will suggest a package, agree the price and find a date.
Checking the roof from ground level
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
How the survey changes by roof type
Large commercial roofs
Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We don’t test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.
How the survey works
The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Notes and photographs go into the written report. It normally takes about one to two hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Somewhere like Blackmore needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

What else we do in Blackmore
Do you need a drone roof survey in Blackmore?
Many roofs are never seen properly from ground level. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Problems in those places frequently go unseen until they leak.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney tops in poor condition
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
Take an older house close to Church of St Laurence: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
What to check before booking
- Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one
- How long the report takes to arrive
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
Drone roof surveys in Blackmore: local notes
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Older buildings in Essex often have clay tiles and weatherboarding, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Take a building like Blackmore Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Historic houses such as Ingatestone Hall, about 3.8 miles south-east, show how far back building around Blackmore goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself.

Common questions in Blackmore
Is Blackmore within the area you cover?
Yes. Blackmore is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Is drone flying allowed in Blackmore?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
What happens after the survey?
The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
Will I get photos?
Yes. Photographs are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.
