What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.

What we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

How a drone roof survey works in Brockhill

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. We are often asked to look into moss and weeds taking hold up top and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, on valleys and parapet gutters, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs.

Villages like Brockhill often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

What happens if roof problems are left?

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. Outbuildings and barns around Brockhill are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Brockhill?

Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge

If you run a business near The Lexicon, big, flat commercial roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help most.

What to check before booking

  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • How long the report takes to arrive
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

Prices for drone roof surveys in Brockhill

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • Roof area
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

What we need to know

A few details help us suggest the right survey and price. When you contact us, it helps to mention:

  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Anything about access we should know

Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

FAQs for Brockhill

Is my home in Brockhill listed or in a conservation area?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Large commercial roofs

Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. With a drone, nobody has to go near them.

Airspace, weather and Brockhill roofs

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. About 3.4 miles north-east lies St Leonard's Hill, a reminder of how long the area around Brockhill has been built on. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead.

For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Mary, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

How the survey works

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In a small place like Brockhill, access is usually the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
