Buckhurst Hill Drone Roof Survey
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach for Buckhurst Hill, from an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photos.
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
Why get it checked now?
Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. You get photos of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. That helps you put the work in order. Around Buckhurst Hill, a leak in an older house can soak into timbers and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the roof fault itself.
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Drone roof survey in Buckhurst Hill: what you get
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone will not help on your roof, we will say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We survey large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and flat roofs on upper floors, and people most often book us about plant growth and moss on the roof and slates or tiles shifted by high winds.
Older cottages and houses around Buckhurst Hill may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

What a survey costs
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Which survey package you book
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.
What to let us know when you get in touch
A few details help us point you to the right survey and price. When you contact us, it is useful to mention:
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- What’s prompted the survey
- The property’s address and postcode
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
When you’re ready to go ahead, phone 07833 053749 or email us. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
What we look for on each type of roof
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Spotting them early stops them falling.
Large commercial roofs
Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.

What else we do in Buckhurst Hill
Drones, thermal imaging and Buckhurst Hill roofs
The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. In Essex, older buildings are frequently clay-tiled, many with weatherboarding, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help.
If you look after a building like Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. The streets around a church like St Stephen's are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Historic houses like Valentines Mansion, about 3.9 miles south, show how far back building around Buckhurst Hill goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself.
Buckhurst Hill is about 2 miles north of Woodford, in Essex. From houses to flats and shops in Buckhurst Hill, the roof can be surveyed. Our area takes in places right across Essex. You can also see our page for London.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Buckhurst Hill
Do you cover smaller places like Buckhurst Hill?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
How do I find out if my home in Buckhurst Hill is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
How long does a drone roof survey take?
Typically, it takes between one and two hours for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. That includes checking the site and the weather before take-off.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Buckhurst Hill?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. You will know the exact price before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. To get a price, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Can you fly a drone near an airport?
Sometimes, with permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, where the airport or air traffic control must give permission first. Without it, we inspect from other safe viewpoints.
Before and after the survey
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year, and whether work has done its job.
Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
What we do, step by step
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Homes around Buckhurst Hill frequently have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
How to prepare
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Note where any stains or damp appear
