FAQs for Fairlop

Is drone flying allowed in Fairlop?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is Fairlop within the area you cover?

Yes. Fairlop is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

When does the report arrive?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

What happens next?

The report arrives by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run on any day of the week. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of customers are satisfied.

About our drone roof survey in Fairlop

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, since that’s where leaks and condensation frequently show first. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. If you are worried about storm damage on steep or tall roofs and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

In smaller places like Fairlop, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

What a survey costs

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Which survey package you book
  • The size of the roof

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

What we need to know

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • When you need the report by
  • The property’s address and postcode

Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Why act early in Fairlop

Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. In an older home around Fairlop, water from a roof defect can get into timber and plaster, and that is a much bigger job than the original defect.

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.

Why book us in Fairlop

Take a look at what a roof survey costs and what we found on two real jobs.

The survey, step by step

We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Being in a smaller place like Fairlop does not change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Keep pets in another room
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building

How to book

If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or email us when you’re ready.

Advice

Roof by roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. They’re all captured in close-up.

What we’re asked to look at in Fairlop

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.

We are frequently asked to look at:

  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Debris building up in hidden gutters

If you look after a building such as Fairlop Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

What to check before booking

  • What the survey won’t cover
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Their track record with similar roofs

What to expect from a roof survey

Checking the roof from ground level

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Fairlop

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Valentines Mansion, about 2.1 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Fairlop. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters.

For an older house near a landmark such as St Francis of Assisi, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
