About our drone roof survey in Calcott

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there is safe access, we look in the loft space too, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there is no safe loft access, the report says so. We’re frequently asked to look into debris building up in hidden gutters and standing water on a flat roof, on chimney stacks, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs.

Villages like Calcott often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Calcott

Is drone flying allowed in Calcott?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Calcott?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

What does the report include?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos. The most urgent items are made clear.

Are you insured?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.

How fast do I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed.

How do I book a survey in Calcott?

To book, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Typically, if there is one and it can be reached safely. The loft space can show things the outside can’t, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.

The survey, step by step

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there’s safe access. All told, expect about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as Calcott, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

How to book

We confirm the price for your roof before you book, so you know where you stand. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Drones, thermal imaging and Calcott roofs

Calcott lies within about 4 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent.

If you look after a building such as Sturry Church of England Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Whitefriars Shopping Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most.

Calcott is about 3 miles south of Herne Bay, in Kent. In Calcott, as across Kent, every roof gets the same careful survey. Calcott is one of the places in Kent where we work.

Roof by roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.

Tips that help

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
  • Book early if you’re near an airport

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Checking the roof from ground level

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Calcott

We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
