How it works

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can safely be seen, from the ground, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where applicable. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a village or hamlet like Church Street, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us where we can park nearby
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming

Drone roof survey in Church Street

Drone roof surveys are available in Church Street and throughout London and the South East, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Common reasons to book are moss building up on slopes and in gutters and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, on flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks.

Somewhere as small as Church Street, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Before and after the survey

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Photograph anything new.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey.

Questions from Church Street

Will you come out to Church Street?

Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is my home in Church Street listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

How experienced are you?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

Will you photograph next door’s garden?

Privacy is taken seriously on every flight. The camera is pointed at your roof, not next door. It is worth telling neighbours about the flight.

What insurance do you have?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

What we’re asked to look at in Church Street

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the surface area by area, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

Typical things we are asked to look at include:

  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters

For an older house near a landmark such as St Mary's Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether you get a written report with photos
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • What the survey will not cover
  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone

What’s in a roof survey

Roof by roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Widespread slipping on slate typically means nail fatigue. We can see the extent of it from above.

Chimney stacks

Our drone check of a chimney is visual, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • How big the roof is
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own

Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the exact price before you book.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Church Street

Church Street lies within about 2 miles of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Older houses across Kent often have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

Temple Manor, about 3.6 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Church Street. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof itself. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Higham Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Church Street is about 4 miles north of Rochester, in Medway. Anywhere in Church Street, we can carry out drone roof surveys at your property. Church Street is one of the places in Medway we cover. Maidstone is in our area too.
