Drone roof surveys in Clanville: local notes
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
The streets around a church such as St Margaret's Chapel are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Appleshaw St Peter's CofE Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Clanville
From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see inside. Where there’s safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that is where leaks and condensation often show first. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. If you’ve noticed loose ridge and hip tiles and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, we can find out what’s behind it.
Villages like Clanville frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
The survey, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. Older roofs in small places like Clanville can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
- We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
Booking a survey
If you’re buying, it is useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.

What we can’t see
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will point you to the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

Different roofs, different checks
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep roofs are risky to walk on. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Chimney stacks
Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Common questions in Clanville
Is Clanville within the area you cover?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Is my home in Clanville listed or in a conservation area?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or email us and let us know the address and what you’d like to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
How much is a survey?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included.
When does the report arrive?
It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Will the drone show what’s under the tiles?
No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but not the loft or the underside. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft space from inside.
What if my home is near an airport?
Only with the right permission. Airports such as Gatwick, Luton and Southampton have flight restriction zones, and a flight inside one needs the airport’s or air traffic control’s say-so. Without it, we inspect from other safe viewpoints.
What a survey costs
Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:
- How big the roof is
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.
