About our drone roof survey in Cop Street

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are moss and weeds taking hold up top and hidden gutters full of leaves.

Villages like Cop Street often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Cop Street

From the ground, you’re guessing about most of a tall roof. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Cop Street, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Useful tips for Cop Street property owners

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • A word with neighbours beforehand helps
  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet

File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys, and they help if you sell.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

Drone roof surveys around Cop Street

Cop Street lies within about 5 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. With Goodnestone Park about 4.1 miles south-west, Cop Street sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years.

Anyone responsible for a site like Ash Cartwright and Kelsey Church of England Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. The streets around a church like Church of St Nicholas are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Cop Street is about 6 miles south-west of Ramsgate, in Kent. From houses to flats and shops in Cop Street, the roof can be surveyed on a weekday or at the weekend. Our area takes in places right across Kent. We also survey roofs in Canterbury.

What we cannot see

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will recommend the right survey. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

For landlords and managing agents

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when you book and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

How we price drone roof surveys

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Height and safe access
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages

Every price we give includes VAT. Prices start from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your survey before you book.

Getting in touch

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Any deadline, like an exchange date
  • Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form to find out.

How it works

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older rural homes like those around Cop Street can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Leave side gates unlocked

Common questions in Cop Street

Do you cover smaller places like Cop Street?

Yes. Cop Street is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Cop Street?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The conditions on the day decide whether a flight goes ahead. Strong wind and heavy rain both rule out flying. We will talk through the options if the day turns bad.

What does a roof survey cost?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

How long does the visit take?

Typically, it takes between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Pre-flight checks of the site and the weather are part of that.

How soon will I get the report?

It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.
