Independent drone roof surveys in Didling

Roof by roof

Large commercial roofs

Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. With a drone, nobody has to go near them.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. The drone sees them without touching them, so the survey does not add damage.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Didling

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We survey fragile roofs, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and people most often book us about coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and worn lead at chimneys and walls.

Somewhere as small as Didling, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

The survey, step by step

The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there’s safe access. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Didling, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Flying and imaging in Didling

With Uppark about 3.7 miles west, Didling sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Andrew, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Tips from our surveys

Small things make a difference. Our tips:

  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Move stored items away from the hatch
  • Shut pets inside while we fly

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.

Do not block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Didling

Is Didling within the area you cover?

Yes, Didling is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Didling?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Are you insured?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, like cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Photos from a drone survey show how the roof looks today. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. Older and listed buildings around Didling may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.
