Drone roof surveys for Ingrams Green homes and businesses

Why act early in Ingrams Green

A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so you see the roof exactly as it is. Around Ingrams Green, older homes often have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Ingrams Green

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there is safe access, we look in the loft space too, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. Common reasons to book are ridge pieces that have lifted and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, on tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and chimney stacks.

Some older homes in villages like Ingrams Green are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

How the survey works

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. In a small place like Ingrams Green, access is typically the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property

What you can safely check yourself

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

When to book a survey in Ingrams Green

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It is hard to tell from below what has shifted. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof

Around Ingrams Green, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • What they will not be able to tell you
  • Whether you get a written report with photos

What to expect from a roof survey

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. We survey on any day of the week, which helps when tenants work during the week.

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work around your tenants.

Drones, thermal imaging and Ingrams Green roofs

In Sussex, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, frequently with tile-hanging on the walls below. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Historic houses such as Cowdray House, about 3.1 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Ingrams Green goes. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

Useful tips for Ingrams Green property owners

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Make sure the loft can be reached

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photos and findings. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

Questions from Ingrams Green

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Ingrams Green?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Do you cover smaller places like Ingrams Green?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

What’s the best way to book?

It is easiest to phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Tell us the address and a little about the roof. Surveys run seven days a week.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when booking and we’ll plan the survey around it.

When does the report arrive?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.
