Drone roof surveys in Chichester

Drone roof survey in Chichester

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it is not safe. If you are worried about eroded pointing on a chimney stack and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, we can find out what’s behind it, on chimney stacks, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters alike.

Around a town like Chichester, steep roofs, tall gables and rear slopes are often hidden from the ground. Close-up drone photos and thermal images show what binoculars from the pavement cannot. Both depend on the weather on the day, so the date is set with the forecast in mind. Rear slopes over back additions are a common example, as they’re rarely visible from the street.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Chichester

Chichester lies within about 5 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Chichester is about 2 miles from Goodwood Aerodrome, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly.

For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Paul, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Chichester means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Take a building like Lancastrian Infant School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Chichester is about 27 miles east of Southampton, in West Sussex. Chichester gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a proper look at whatever is safely visible, photographs and a clear written report. Our West Sussex coverage includes Chichester. You can also see our page for Portsmouth.

All of PO19, PO20, PO18 and PO10 is covered for drone roof surveys, from the main roads to the quietest streets. That includes homes and businesses on St Martin's Square, Market Road and Old Market Avenue. Chichester sits on or near the A27 and A259. We also cover the places around Chichester: Portfield (1 mile east), Westhampnett (1 mile north-east), Shopwyke (2 miles east), Maudlin (2 miles north-east) and East Lavant (2 miles north). Further out, we also cover Bognor Regis (5 miles south-east), Selsey (7 miles south), Littlehampton (11 miles east), Emsworth (7 miles west), Rustington (12 miles east) and Storrington (15 miles east). Chichester is among the bigger towns we cover in West Sussex.

Practical tips

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Tell us the exact address as you book
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

Keep the photos with your property records. They give you something to compare against later.

Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

What a survey costs

To price your survey, we check:

  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Building height and the viewpoints available

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.

Helping us price your survey

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

The survey, step by step

The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Notes and photos go into the written report. It typically takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Parking in a town like Chichester is normally simple, but tell us if there’s a driveway or any restrictions. The inspection covers whatever is safely visible from outside, from windows and from the loft space.

  1. You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Why get it checked now?

A drone record gives you a baseline. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. On homes in Chichester, the joint between an extension and the house is where a slow leak tends to start. A few wet winters later, it can mean new plaster and decorating as well as roof work.

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

Chichester questions

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Chichester?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Is Chichester in the area you cover?

Yes, Chichester is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Chichester as anywhere else, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The flight waits for better weather. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so a new date is agreed with you, or look from other safe viewpoints if you’d rather.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

Near airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, London City and Stansted, flight restriction zones apply. We check the airspace for your address and seek permission where it is needed. If it isn’t given, we inspect by other means.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before you book, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, call 07833 053749 or email us.

How soon will I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.

Do I need to be at home?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you as you book.

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. We record what we find with photos.
