Live in PO19? We cover Chichester, Portfield and Fishbourne and every street in between, for homes, flats and commercial roofs.

Our roof survey service in PO19

Roof coverings last a long time, but not for ever. Slate frequently lasts a century or more, and tiles commonly half a century, but the fixings and underlay beneath them often give out sooner. We tell you which parts are ageing and which are sound. Knowing that helps you plan work before it becomes urgent. Common reasons to book are loose ridge or hip tiles and gutters that overflow in heavy rain, on natural slate, clay and concrete tiles and ridges, hips and valleys.

Where it is relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are.

  1. We start with the property details and any concerns.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
  3. We look at the roof from every safe vantage point outside.
  4. Inside, we check the loft space where there is safe access.
  5. You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.

How our prices work

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Around Chichester

We work in homes and buildings around Lancastrian Infant School, Church of St Paul and Central C of E Junior School, among other places. Nearby too are Chichester High School For Girls (0.7 miles south) and George and Dragon Inn (within half a mile south-east). For rail, the closest station is Chichester station, roughly 0.6 miles south of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Novium Museum (less than half a mile south) and Chichester Castle (under half a mile east). Not far away are Stoke Down and Kingley Vale National Nature Reserve.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters across PO19

Across PO19, we survey roofs for owners, landlords and agents, from Chichester, Portfield and Fishbourne to the quieter places in between. Each report sets out what was seen, with photographs and recommendations.

London and South East England mix slate and clay tile roofs on older homes with concrete tiles on many later ones. That variety shapes every survey in PO19. Some of PO19 sits close to the sea, so the weather on the day matters more for drone flights and roof access. A windy forecast can mean a change of date.

Chichester: If you own a rental within reach of Chichester station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. If you look after a building such as Lancastrian Infant School, a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

Tips that help

Getting the most from a roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Look for debris in the garden after high winds
  • Include dormers, porches and garages when booking
  • Take photos of any leaks as they happen
  • File the report with your home documents

If you need work done, the report gives roofers a clear brief. The photos show what we found and where, which makes quotes easier to compare.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Condensation builds up when air can’t move, and it can wet timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of eaves vents.

How we price roof surveys

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Height and safe access

A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both with VAT included. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking.

What to tell us when you contact us

A little information up front helps. It is useful to include:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Anything about access we should know

You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

DIY checks: what’s safe

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

It helps to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.

What this survey can’t tell you

Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey won’t do:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
  • A full building survey of the property

Landlords, agents and block managers in PO19

Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in PO19. For a price for a let property or a block, call 07833 053749 or email us.

PO19: your questions answered

Do you go up on the roof?

When the roof and the conditions make it safe, yes. We also use views from the ground, windows and the roof space.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. Inside, we look for damp, staining, gaps and sagging.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.

Do you give a life expectancy for the roof?

Not as an exact number, since the fixings, underlay and maintenance all play a part. What we do is explain the roof’s condition and what to deal with first.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.

What do you check on a roof survey?

Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, along with the loft where it is safe. You get a written report with photos and recommendations.
