Drone roof surveys near Hunston

Drones, thermal imaging and Hunston roofs

Hunston is within about 3 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Historic houses such as Goodwood House, about 4.5 miles north, show how far back building in the area around Hunston goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

For site and facilities teams at buildings like North Mundham Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Drone roof survey in Hunston: what you get

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. If you are worried about ridge pieces that have lifted and lead work pulling away at abutments, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and flat roofs on upper floors alike.

Somewhere as small as Hunston, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Can I check my roof myself?

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Hunston questions

Is Hunston within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Are there drone restrictions around Hunston?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.

Are you insured?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for your roof before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. For a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

Will you check the loft?

If it is needed and safe to reach, yes. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Hunston

Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

Problems we come across frequently include:

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Standing water on a flat roof

For an older house near a landmark such as St Leodegar's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Questions to ask before you book

  • If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • Their report turnaround times
  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone

What a roof survey includes

What affects the price in Hunston

Our packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • The size of the roof
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Height and safe access

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT.

Booking your survey

What helps most when you contact us:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • What made you get in touch

Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Tips from our surveys

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:

  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

How the survey works

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Somewhere as small as Hunston, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Let us know about parking near the property

Book a survey

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply call 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.
