Drone roof survey in Nyewood: what you get

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it’s worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. Common reasons to book are flashings that have come away and wind damage high on the roof, on chimney stacks, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs.

Older buildings in small places like Nyewood may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to.

What we do, step by step

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. In total, it takes about one to two hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In a small place like Nyewood, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Advice

Tips from our surveys

A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Book early if you are near an airport
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Keep pets indoors during the flight

If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

What happens if roof problems are left?

A drone record gives you a baseline. Comparing them with later photos shows what has changed. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. In a small place like Nyewood, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can safely be seen and the package you choose.

FAQs for Nyewood

Do you cover smaller places like Nyewood?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is my home in Nyewood listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.

Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?

Yes. Our registration covers a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We use a sub-250g drone, flown within the rules for the open category.

How long does a drone roof survey take?

It normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Time for the pre-flight checks is included.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed.

How many surveys have you done?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

Can I check my roof myself?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.

What a survey costs

All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

Getting in touch

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • What made you get in touch

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can call 07833 053749 or email us to find out.
