Drone roof survey in Ditton Hill, Greater London
Drone roof surveys in Ditton Hill from an independent, experienced roof surveyor. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us.
- Chimney tops in poor condition
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
Should I look at the roof myself first?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
How a drone roof survey works in Ditton Hill
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. Everything we find goes into a photo-illustrated written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. Typical surveys look at ridge and hip pieces working loose and outlets choked with leaves and silt, across fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs.
In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. Images are taken to show the roof we’re surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building when booking. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

How the survey works
We look at the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey normally takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so the back of the roof is frequently seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, tell us when booking.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Drone roof surveys around Ditton Hill
Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.
For businesses in and around places such as Bentall Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. Anyone responsible for a site like Long Ditton Infant and Nursery School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Hampton Court Palace lies about 2 miles north-west, so building around Ditton Hill goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition.

Questions from Ditton Hill
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Ditton Hill?
It depends on the street. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well, and a driveway is even better.
Are there drone restrictions around Ditton Hill?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Why get it checked now?
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork, which can lead to damp inside. A small blockage left for a few winters becomes a damp problem.
