How a drone roof survey works in East End Green
Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports like Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. If you’ve noticed cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and lead work pulling away at abutments, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Somewhere as small as East End Green, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Tips from our surveys
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
The Premium Survey report comes the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly, alongside the other checks in the package.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
Drones, thermal imaging and East End Green roofs
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Shop and office owners around Howard Centre may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. Historic houses such as Hatfield House, about 4 miles west, show how far back building around East End Green goes. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hertingfordbury Cowper Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

East End Green: your questions answered
Does a conservation area affect roof work in East End Green?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Are there drone restrictions around East End Green?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
What’s in the survey report?
A written report with photographs, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, by urgency where it matters. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Do you work in East End Green?
Yes. We survey roofs in East End Green and the rest of Hertfordshire. To book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
When does the report arrive?
That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just tell us the days that suit you.
How long is the visit?
Expect it to take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The written report follows by email.
When you need someone else
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll point you to the right survey. What a survey covers and does not.

What else we do in East End Green
The survey, step by step
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. We inspect what can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Rural addresses near East End Green can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Preparing for the visit
- Check pets are kept safely away
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
