Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Letty Green
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. If you’re worried about damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and loose ridge and hip tiles, we can find out what’s behind it.
Somewhere as small as Letty Green, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The report is written in plain words, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, with the urgent items made clear.

What we do, step by step
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Rural addresses near Letty Green can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Before the survey
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

Letty Green questions
Is Letty Green within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Is my home in Letty Green listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
What will the report tell me?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photos. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.
How long will you be at the property?
Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Pre-flight checks of the site and the weather are part of that.
Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?
Not as part of the drone survey, which is about close-up photos. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.
What if it is windy or raining on the day?
We don’t fly in high wind or heavy rain. Whether we can fly depends on the conditions on the day. If we can’t fly, we’ll arrange another day or inspect by other means.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. We’ll recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Different roofs, different checks
Chimney stacks
Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.
Valleys and parapet gutters
A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You cannot see it from the street at all, but it’s plain to see from the air.
What this survey can’t tell you
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. What our survey covers.

Drone roof surveys around Letty Green
Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.
Anyone responsible for a site like Hertingfordbury Cowper Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. For businesses in and around places like Howard Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. With Hatfield House about 3.4 miles south-west, the area around Letty Green has a long history. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition.

Tips that help
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.
Why act early in Letty Green
From ground level, you are guessing about most of a tall roof. Close-up photos show what’s really there. It’s far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. In a place like Letty Green, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.
