Roof survey in SG14: how it works
There’s no single reason to have a roof surveyed. Some have spotted a stain or a slipped slate, while others just want to know where they stand. Whatever the reason, the survey works the same way: a careful look, then a clear written report. Visits run on weekdays and at weekends, so it’s easy to find a day that suits. Common reasons to book are crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching and leaking gutter joints and downpipes, across ridges, hips and valleys, natural slate and clay and concrete tiles.
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- We arrive at the agreed time and talk through any concerns.
- Coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are inspected and photographed.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.
What you will pay
Prices start from £150, with VAT included, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. We confirm the price for your survey before you book.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters across SG14
In SG14, our roof surveys work takes in owners, landlords and managing agents, in Hertford, Bengeo and Horns Mill and well beyond. Every report comes with photographs and written recommendations.
Our surveys reach from London out to Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Essex, the Thames Valley, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, SG14 included. Visits run on weekdays and at weekends.
Hertford: If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Hertford United Reform Church, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Mill Mead Primary School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.
Prices for roof surveys in SG14
Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
What to tell us when you contact us
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- What made you get in touch
Booking is simple: just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and give us some details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. The price is agreed up front.
Landlords, agents and block managers in SG14
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed ahead of time. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which can make access easier.
What you can safely check yourself
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
How the survey changes by roof type
Concrete interlocking tiles
Concrete interlocking tiles are common on post-war and newer homes. They’re heavy and hard-wearing, but their surfaces weather over the years, and they can crack.
Chimney stacks
Each chimney’s pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings are looked at, as far as we can safely see them. We note any lean or loose pots.
What a survey does not cover
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
- Confirmation of asbestos in soffits or cement sheets
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
SG14 questions
What’s the best way to book?
To book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you’d like to know. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.
Do you go up on the roof?
Where it’s safe, yes. We also inspect from the ground, from windows and vantage points, and from the loft. On Premium, a drone is used where applicable.
Do you need to get into the loft?
If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Do you work in SG14?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and that includes SG14.

Yes, where applicable and safe. We are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where it applies.
How much is a survey?
Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
