Independent drone roof surveys in Eastwick

How the survey changes by roof type

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep roofs are risky to walk on. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen.

How a drone roof survey works in Eastwick

We fly a sub-250g drone, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. If you’ve noticed ponding and splits on a high flat roof and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, we can find out what’s behind it.

Some older homes in villages like Eastwick are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Eastwick

Landlords, agents and building managers in Eastwick and across Essex can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, with the report sent to whoever needs it. Access is agreed with the tenant in advance.

Useful tips for Eastwick property owners

From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:

  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Book early if you’re near an airport
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property

The Premium Survey report comes the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

How it works

We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Around Eastwick, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Leave side gates unlocked

What happens if roof problems are left?

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photographs. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. In a small place like Eastwick, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

Why book with us

FAQs for Eastwick

Will you come out to Eastwick?

Yes, Eastwick is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.

Is my home in Eastwick listed or in a conservation area?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

Sometimes, with permission. Airports like Gatwick, Luton and Southampton have flight restriction zones, and a flight inside one needs the airport’s or air traffic control’s say-so. If permission isn’t given, the roof is inspected from other safe viewpoints.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report.

Does the weather affect a drone survey?

Bad weather means no flight. Wind and heavy rain are the two things that ground a small drone, so we’d move the date with you.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach.

Drone roof surveys in Eastwick: local notes

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Harlow, which Eastwick is part of, is one of England’s post-war new towns. Homes from the post-war decades are common in the new towns, many with low-pitched roofs in concrete tiles and flat-roofed garages or porches. Low pitches and flat-roofed additions are hard to see from ground level, so aerial and thermal views add detail.

If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St Botolph, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If you look after a building like Pemberley Academy, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Eastwick is about 2 miles north-west of Harlow, in Essex. Eastwick is one of many places we visit across Essex, for homes and businesses alike. Our area takes in places right across Essex, from the larger towns to small villages. We also survey roofs in Chelmsford.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.
