Drone roof survey in Gadebridge, Hertfordshire

  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Flashings that have come away

Why get it checked now?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. They show the location and extent of each defect. With lower homes, common in places like Gadebridge, there is little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.

Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You will know the price for your survey before booking.

How a drone roof survey works in Gadebridge

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. Common reasons to book are cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, on valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs.

Around Gadebridge, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

Blocked outlets in hidden gutters cause many leaks. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Walking on fragile coverings can break them. The drone sees them without touching them.

What happens on the day

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. A visit to a smaller place like Gadebridge is no different on the day: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. It’s useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before the survey

  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Check the loft hatch can be reached

Advice

Checking the roof from ground level

Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

FAQs for Gadebridge

Is my home in Gadebridge listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Will you come out to Gadebridge?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.

Are there drone restrictions in central London?

Central London has restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, and flights there need NATS permission. We check the airspace for your address and apply where needed.

How much is a survey?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it is agreed before booking.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. Visible signs like deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

What if it is windy or raining on the day?

Strong wind or a downpour stops a flight. Whether we can fly depends on the conditions on the day. If we can’t fly, we’ll arrange another day.

What’s the best way to book?

Just ring 07833 053749 or email us. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.

Flying and imaging in Gadebridge

Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Galley Hill Primary School and Nursery, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. If you live in an older home near St Alban's Church, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Honest limits

Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey won’t do:

  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • A structural engineer’s report

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
