Great Bookham Drone Roof Survey
Find out what’s going on with the roof before you spend money on it. Drone roof surveys in Great Bookham.
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Standing water on a flat roof
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
When to book a survey in Great Bookham
Height and steep pitches make close inspection risky. Tall townhouses, blocks of flats and offices are typical. We fly from ground level and bring the camera close to the roof.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
Anyone responsible for a site like The Dawnay School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Drone roof survey in Great Bookham
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are loose ridge and hip tiles and hidden gutters full of leaves.
In smaller places like Great Bookham, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you cannot see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from ground level.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

Tips from our surveys
A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photographs and findings. You can ask about anything that is not clear.
Every so frequently, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
DIY checks: what’s safe
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
How it works
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. A visit to Great Bookham is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed beforehand. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets in another room
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent

Why get it checked now?
Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so the survey does not create new problems. On a bungalow or cottage around Great Bookham, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both inc. VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.

Drone roof surveys in Great Bookham: local notes
With Polesden Lacey about 1.6 miles south, Great Bookham sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Nicolas are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Great Bookham questions
Do you cover smaller places like Great Bookham?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
How do I find out if my home in Great Bookham is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible.
How soon will I get the report?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.
What will the report tell me?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.
Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?
Flight restriction zones around protected airports need permission from the airport or air traffic control before any flight. We check the airspace for your address and seek permission where it is needed. If it isn’t given, we inspect by other means.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you when booking.
