Drone roof survey in Hethe
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. Typical surveys look at storm damage on steep or tall roofs and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, on tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
In a village or hamlet like Hethe, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

How the survey works
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a hamlet or village like Hethe, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey

How to book
Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.
Ridges and hips
Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Drone roof surveys around Hethe
Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, and councils can also use Article 4 directions to control changes in conservation areas. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Edmund and George, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Anyone responsible for a site like Fringford Church of England Primary School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Hethe is about 4 miles north of Bicester, in Oxfordshire. If you are in Hethe, booking works exactly as it does anywhere else: a call or an email, a price, then a date. Across Oxfordshire, we cover Hethe and the places around it. There is also a page for Oxford.

Hethe: your questions answered
Is drone flying allowed in Hethe?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hethe?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
Will I get photos?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found.
Is Hethe in your area?
Yes, we do. Hethe is part of the area we cover.
What do I do with the report?
The report arrives by email. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
How we price drone roof surveys
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- How big the roof is
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
What we need to know
When you call or email, these details help:
- What made you get in touch
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- The kind of building and roof involved
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.

Tips that help
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
File the report and photos with your home documents. They give you something to compare against later.
Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Finding them now means less to put right. Older cottages and farmhouses around Hethe can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
