Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Horncastle
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where it applies, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. If you are worried about moss and weeds taking hold up top and cracked mortar along the ridge, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Older cottages and houses around Horncastle may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Results depend on the weather, so the visit is planned around the forecast.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

The survey, step by step
A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Horncastle, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is checked where it can be reached safely.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

Horncastle questions
Is drone flying allowed in Horncastle?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
Do you cover smaller places like Horncastle?
Yes, Horncastle is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies.
What will the report tell me?
A written report with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations, by urgency where it matters. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. The report includes photos of what we found, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.
What if it rains on the day?
Light rain does not normally stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.
Do you need a drone roof survey in Horncastle?
From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Problems in those places often go unseen until they leak.
Problems we come across often include:
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
For businesses in and around places like Broad Street Mall, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see by drone or thermal camera.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Their insurance cover
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see

- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- A structural engineer’s report
- Flights in high wind or heavy rain

What this survey covers
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roofs on tall buildings are often seen by nobody. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You can’t see it from the street at all, but it’s plain to see from the air.
Checking the roof from ground level
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.
