Drone roof surveys near Southcote

Roof by roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Widespread slipping on slate typically means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.

How a drone roof survey works in Southcote

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission is not given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and people most frequently book us about chimney tops in poor condition and vegetation in valleys and gutters.

Around Southcote, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day. Even so, a close-up image frequently shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from ground level misses.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Checking the roof from the ground

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

What affects the price in Southcote

Survey packages start from £150, inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.

Helping us price your survey

There is no need for technical words. It’s enough to let us know:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form to find out.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Southcote

Is drone flying allowed in Southcote?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Is my home in Southcote listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Do you work in Southcote?

Yes. Southcote is part of the area we cover.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Do you look in the loft space?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.

How fast do I get the report?

The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Southcote?

After storms, owners want to know what has moved. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments

Take a building like Manor Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
  • Whether VAT is in the quoted price

Drone roof surveys around Southcote

Mapledurham House, about 3.1 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Southcote. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Broad Street Mall, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. Take an older house close to St Matthew's: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Useful tips for Southcote property owners

Small things make a difference. Our tips:

  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Make sure the loft can be reached
  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared

We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Findings are set out in plain English, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Every so often, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.

The survey, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a written report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, it usually takes an hour or two at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Being in a smaller place like Southcote doesn’t change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before the survey
