What happens if roof problems are left?

A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Nothing is cracked or dislodged by footsteps, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. For an older or listed building in a place like Horns Mill, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Drone roof survey in Horns Mill

Drone roof surveys are available in Horns Mill and throughout London and the South East, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. If you’re worried about ponding and splits on a high flat roof and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, we can find out what’s behind it, on flat roofs on upper floors, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs alike.

Somewhere as small as Horns Mill, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned in advance. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What we do, step by step

There is not much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Around Horns Mill, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Keep pets in another room
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Drone roof surveys in Horns Mill: local notes

There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Horns Mill, and hotels, like offices and blocks of flats, often have flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Horns Mill, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition. Take a building like Morgans Primary School & Nursery: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Andrew, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

Horns Mill is about 1 mile south of Hertford, in Hertfordshire. Whether the building in Horns Mill is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, the roof can be surveyed. We cover towns and villages across Hertfordshire, from the larger towns to small villages. You can also see our page for London.

Surveys in SG13 and SG14 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on Cecil Road, Peg's Lane and Purkiss Road or a nearby road, we can survey it. Close by, we survey roofs in Hertford (1 mile north), Foxholes (1 mile north-east), Hertford Heath (2 miles east), Rush Green (2 miles north-east) and Brickendon (2 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Stevenage (9 miles north-west), St Albans (11 miles west), Bishop's Stortford (12 miles north-east), Welwyn Garden City (5 miles west), Harpenden (12 miles west) and Hitchin (14 miles north-west).

DIY checks: what’s safe

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

We confirm the exact price before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • How big the roof is
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Anything about access we should know

Most bookings start with a short call: ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

Questions from Horns Mill

Is my home in Horns Mill listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Will you come out to Horns Mill?

Yes. Horns Mill is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Can the drone do thermal imaging?

The drone survey is a photographic inspection. Thermal imaging is carried out separately, included in our Premium Survey.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?

Yes, we are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and the drone itself is under 250g.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

Flight restriction zones around protected airports need permission from the airport or air traffic control before any flight. We check the airspace for your address and seek permission where it is needed. If we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points.

Do drone rules differ in central London?

Central London has restricted areas where NATS permission is needed. Where we can’t fly, we use other safe vantage points and explain what we could see.

What this survey cannot tell you

In fairness, a roof survey has limits:

  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
