Drone roof survey in Ibthorpe

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we are there to survey. We survey tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are loose ridge and hip tiles and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack.

In a small place like Ibthorpe, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photo. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Tips from our surveys

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:

  • Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off

There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit, and whether work has done its job.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

Questions from Ibthorpe

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Ibthorpe?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Ibthorpe?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

How experienced are you?

We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

Do you cover Ibthorpe?

Yes. We cover Ibthorpe and the rest of Hampshire, as part of our work across London and the South East. To book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Wind lifts loose ridge and hip tiles. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

What this survey can’t tell you

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks

Flying and imaging in Ibthorpe

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Historic houses such as Stargroves, about 4.9 miles north-east, show how far back building in the area around Ibthorpe goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Take an older house close to Church of St Peter: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. For site and facilities teams at buildings like Hurstbourne Tarrant Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Ibthorpe is about 5 miles north of Andover, in Hampshire. Houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings in Ibthorpe can all book drone roof surveys, with a written report and photographs every time. Our Hampshire coverage includes Ibthorpe. For surveys nearby, see our Reading page.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Ibthorpe

From the ground, you are guessing about most of a tall roof. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. For older village homes like those around Ibthorpe, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

What we do, step by step

We’ll ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes an hour or two for most houses, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. In a small place like Ibthorpe, access is normally the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
