Drone roof survey in Upper Enham
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. We survey tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below.
Villages like Upper Enham frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

What we can’t see
In fairness, a roof survey has limits:
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Large and complex roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
How the survey works
When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, from the ground, from windows, in the loft space and by drone where it applies. The survey normally takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere like Upper Enham needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent

Flying and imaging in Upper Enham
Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask.
For an older house near a landmark such as Saint George, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Smannell and Enham Church of England (Aided) Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

How the survey changes by roof type
Chimney stacks
Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. A drone avoids that, so the survey doesn’t add damage.
What you can safely check yourself
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

Why act early in Upper Enham
A drone survey disturbs nothing on the roof. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey doesn’t create new problems. In a small place like Upper Enham, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Upper Enham questions
Is Upper Enham within the area you cover?
Yes, Upper Enham is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Is drone flying allowed in Upper Enham?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
What if it rains on the day?
It depends on the weather and the survey. In high wind or heavy rain, a drone can’t fly and access may not be safe, so we’d move the date with you.
How fast do I get the report?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.
