Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hyde
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We’ll tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. We’re frequently asked to look into slates or tiles shifted by high winds and loose ridge and hip tiles, on fragile roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.
Around Hyde, older homes can have thin loft insulation and later additions with roofs of their own. Thermal patterns and close-up photos together give a fuller picture of the roof. Findings are checked with moisture readings where needed. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
The report is written in plain words, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

What a survey costs
We confirm the price for the job before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- The roof’s overall size
Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can be seen safely and which survey you book.
What to tell us when you contact us
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- What made you get in touch
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Common questions in Hyde
Do you cover smaller places like Hyde?
Yes, Hyde is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.
Are there drone restrictions around Hyde?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
How quickly is the report sent?
That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
What we do, step by step
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a smaller place like Hyde, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can frequently be seen well from the ground, and the loft shows the rest.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

What we’re asked to look at in Hyde
Large roofs take a long time to see on foot. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Flashings that have come away
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Bartholomew's Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
What to check before booking
- Whether the price includes VAT
- Whether you get a written report with photos
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
Should I look at the roof myself first?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Useful tips for Hyde property owners
Nothing here needs a ladder. Our suggestions:
- Tell us about any leaks or concerns
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.
Landlords, agents and block managers in Hyde
Landlords, agents and building managers in Hyde and across Hampshire can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
Drones, thermal imaging and Hyde roofs
Hyde has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Hyde means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Take a building like St Bede Church of England Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
