Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Finkley

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it isn’t safe. If you’ve noticed lifted or split lead flashings and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

In a small place like Finkley, open ground can mean strong wind. Strong wind or a downpour stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photographs show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

Flying and imaging in Finkley

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask.

Take a building like Smannell and Enham Church of England (Aided) Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Christ Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Finkley is about 2 miles north-east of Andover, in Hampshire. We survey roofs in Finkley and the rest of Hampshire, as part of our work across London and the South East. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire, large and small. There is also a page for Southampton.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Finkley

Any of our surveys can be booked by landlords, agents and building managers in Finkley. To discuss a property or a block, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Useful tips for Finkley property owners

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photos and findings. You can ask about anything that is not clear.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Finkley

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Finkley?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Is Finkley within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Will you check the loft?

Yes, where the survey calls for it and there’s safe access. We look for staining, damp, daylight and signs of movement, as far as the space allows.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

When you need someone else

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

What we look for on each type of roof

Large commercial roofs

Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically, so nothing is skipped.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

The flat roof on top of a block is rarely looked at. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.

What you can safely check yourself

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in.

What happens on the day

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. In total, it takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a hamlet or village like Finkley, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
