Drone roof survey in Stoke
They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address ahead of the visit. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and fragile roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are lifted or split lead flashings and gaps where slates or tiles have gone.
Villages like Stoke often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photographs show what each point refers to.

Drone roof surveys around Stoke
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.
If you look after a building such as St Mary Bourne Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Whatever the street in Stoke, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early.

For landlords and managing agents
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
Landlords and agents in Stoke book surveys as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos.
How the survey works
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. For a village or hamlet like Stoke, the journey is planned ahead of time: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- A structural engineer’s report
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Fragile roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
Checking the roof from ground level
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
FAQs for Stoke
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Stoke?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will you come out to Stoke?
Yes, Stoke is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Does your drone take thermal images?
No, the drone survey is photographic. Thermal imaging is a separate check in the Premium Survey, and its findings are checked with moisture readings.
What happens next?
You’ll get the report by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation.
Will I get photos?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys run on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or email us.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Planning roof work without seeing the roof is a gamble. You get photos of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can tackle the urgent items first. In a small place like Stoke, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.
