Ingatestone Drone Roof Survey
Wondering about the roof at a property in Ingatestone? You can book a drone roof survey in Ingatestone and across Essex.
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- Flights in strong wind or a downpour
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Drone roof survey in Ingatestone
We fly a sub-250g drone, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Every flight is planned around the roof, the site and the people nearby. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. We never fly where it is not safe. We survey large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and people most often book us about lead work pulling away at abutments and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots.
Even in a smaller place like Ingatestone, there may be airfields or restrictions nearby, so every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

How the survey works
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes about one to two hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a smaller place like Ingatestone, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at

Advice
How the survey changes by roof type
Ridges and hips
Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. We record what we see of their condition.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. We record the signs of age we can see.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Practical tips
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys, and they help if you sell.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, so small faults are dealt with early.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Ingatestone
Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, and a good many post-war and modern estates besides. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Ingatestone Hall, about 0.7 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Ingatestone. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Ingatestone Infant School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Take an older house close to Church of St Edmund and St Mary: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

FAQs for Ingatestone
Will you come out to Ingatestone?
Yes, Ingatestone is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
Is my home in Ingatestone listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
What if my home is near an airport?
It depends on the airspace at your address. Flying inside a flight restriction zone needs permission from the airport or air traffic control. Book early if you think you may be affected.
How long does the visit take?
Expect it to take about one to two hours at a typical home, or half a day or so for a commercial building. That includes checking the site and the weather before take-off.
Can the drone do thermal imaging?
Our drone survey is about close-up photographs. If you need thermal imaging, it’s part of the Premium Survey, as a separate check.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
How much does a drone roof survey cost in Ingatestone?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. You’ll know the price for the job before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
