Your questions about drone roof surveys in Kempe's Corner
Is drone flying allowed in Kempe's Corner?
Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Kempe's Corner listed or in a conservation area?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
What if it rains on the day?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions are not right, we’ll talk to you about another date.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. For a price, call 07833 053749 or email us.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.
About our drone roof survey in Kempe's Corner
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs cannot always be inspected up close. A drone takes close-up photographs of those roofs from the air. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly, including slopes that cannot be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. Where a flight isn’t possible, we explain why. If you’ve noticed debris building up in hidden gutters and flashings that have come away, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Kempe's Corner, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

What this survey can’t tell you
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- A structural engineer’s report
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
Useful tips for Kempe's Corner property owners
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
- Tell us about any leaks or concerns
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys, and they help if you sell.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
What we look for on each type of roof
Ridges and hips
Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. We record what we see of their condition.
Chimney stacks
From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. We record what we find with photos.
What affects the price in Kempe's Corner
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Which survey package you book
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
What we need to know
If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:
- What made you get in touch
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
- The property’s address and postcode
Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
How it works
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Older roofs in small places like Kempe's Corner can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- Find any records of previous roof work
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
Arrange a survey
If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply ring 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.

A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
Shop and office owners around County Square may find that large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see by drone or thermal camera.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Will the report include photos?
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Is VAT included in the price?
