About our drone roof survey in Kemprow
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. If you’re worried about hidden gutters full of leaves and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, we can find out what’s behind it.
Older buildings in small places like Kemprow may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Nothing in the report is left vague: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, along with how urgent it is.

What we are asked to look at in Kemprow
Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.
We’re often asked to look at:
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
The streets around a church like St John are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Kemprow questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Kemprow?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Kemprow?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Kemprow is about 2 miles from Elstree Aerodrome, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Will I get photos?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and the report uses them to show each finding.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them.
What’s the best way to book?
Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
What insurance do you have?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.
Practical tips
Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Tell us about any leaks or concerns
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Every so often, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.
Drones, thermal imaging and Kemprow roofs
Elstree Aerodrome is about 2 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
With High Elms Manor about 2.7 miles north-west, the area around Kemprow has a long history. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Take a building like Fair Field Junior School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. Recommendations are set out in order of urgency where relevant.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You will know the exact price before booking.
Getting in touch
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, tell us:
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- What kind of property and roof it is
- The property’s address and postcode
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.
How the survey works
You don’t need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a small place like Kemprow, access is normally the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
Book a survey
A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.

What a drone roof survey does not cover
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- A structural engineer’s report
If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
