Common questions in Lambourne End

Is drone flying allowed in Lambourne End?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Lambourne End is about 2 miles from Stapleford Aerodrome, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Do you cover smaller places like Lambourne End?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

What do I do with the report?

You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

How much does a drone roof survey cost in Lambourne End?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking, and it depends on the roof’s size, access and the package you choose. To get a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.

Do I need to be at home?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Drone roof survey in Lambourne End

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see inside. Where there is safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that’s where leaks and condensation often show first. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. If you’ve noticed flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Older buildings in small places like Lambourne End may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

How it works

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older rural homes like those around Lambourne End can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Preparing for the visit

  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Let us know about parking near the property
  • Note where any stains or damp appear

Airspace, weather and Lambourne End roofs

Stapleford Aerodrome is about 2 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. About 3 miles north lies Hill Hall, a reminder of how long the area around Lambourne End has been built on. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

For an older house near a landmark such as Parish Church of St Mary and All Saints, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Different roofs, different checks

Steep slate and tile slopes

Widespread slipping on slate usually means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.

Valleys and parapet gutters

A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You can’t see it from the street at all, but it’s plain to see from the air.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, and it comes down to:

  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • Roof area
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

What to let us know when you contact us

If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:

  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them

Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will explain the options and the price.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Lambourne End

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Flashings that have come away
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Chigwell Row Infant School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photos
  • How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone

What a good roof survey covers

Why it is worth a survey now in Lambourne End

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Finding them now means less to put right. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Lambourne End, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
