Abridge Drone Roof Survey
Get a clear view of the roof at a property in Abridge. Visits run on weekdays and weekends, in the daytime.
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
Why it is worth a survey now in Abridge
Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller, whatever height the roof is. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Drone roof survey in Abridge: what you get
The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We don’t fly in strong wind or heavy rain, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and large and complex roofs, and people most often book us about blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and worn lead at chimneys and walls.
In a small place like Abridge, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

Abridge: your questions answered
Is Abridge within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is my home in Abridge listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. If one is needed, the report says so.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
What if it is windy or raining on the day?
We do not fly in strong wind or heavy rain. The weather on the day decides whether the drone goes up. If we cannot fly, we will arrange another day or inspect by other means.
What will the report tell me?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photos. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.
Are there drone restrictions in central London?
Central London has restricted areas where NATS permission is needed. Where we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points and explain what we could see.

What this survey can’t tell you
We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Chimney stacks
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
How the survey works
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Around Abridge, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
How to prepare
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Keep pets in another room

What a drone roof survey looks like in Abridge
Abridge is about 2 miles from Stapleford Aerodrome, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly. In Essex, older buildings are often clay-tiled, many with weatherboarding, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
If you look after a building such as Lambourne Primary School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. With Hill Hall about 2.2 miles north-east, the area around Abridge has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. For an older house near a landmark like Holy Trinity Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Abridge is about 2 miles east of Loughton, in Essex. Abridge is part of the area we cover as part of our work across London and South East England. Abridge is one of the towns and villages in Essex where we work for drone roof surveys. There’s also a page for London.
Surveys in RM4 are booked the same way as anywhere else. That includes homes and businesses on Market Place, London Road and Orchid Close and the roads around them. Abridge is on the A113, so it’s easy for us to get to. Nearby, we also carry out drone roof surveys in Lambourne (1 mile south-east), Lambourne End (1 mile south-east), Theydon Garnon (1 mile north), Hobbs Cross (2 miles north) and Chigwell Row (2 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Basildon (15 miles east), Harlow (8 miles north), Brentwood (8 miles east), Billericay (13 miles east), Waltham Abbey (5 miles north-west) and Epping (3 miles north).
Local landmarks in Abridge
We work in homes and buildings around Debden Park High School and The Maltsters Arms Public House and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Chingford station, roughly 4.9 miles west of the centre. A little further out are Epping Signalling Museum (3 miles north) and St. Margaret's Hospital (3.8 miles north). The countryside around Abridge includes Lippitts Hill and Home Mead.
How the survey changes by roof type
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. A drone gets close to the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.
For landlords and managing agents
Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. Surveys run seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as householders. A written report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof.
Practical tips
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
- Let us know the exact address as you book
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.
Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
