How a drone roof survey works in Lower Halstow

We carry out drone roof surveys in Lower Halstow and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on any day of the week. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. Typical surveys look at worn lead at chimneys and walls and wind damage high on the roof, across valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs.

Villages like Lower Halstow frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

What we do, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photographs go into the written report. It typically takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Somewhere as small as Lower Halstow, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is checked, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

For landlords and managing agents

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. Surveys run seven days a week, which can make access easier.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. They’re all captured in close-up.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Lower Halstow

Lower Halstow is within about 2 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so check with the council.

Take a building like Lower Halstow Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Margaret of Antioch, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Lower Halstow is about 3 miles north-west of Sittingbourne, in Kent. Lower Halstow is part of the area we cover and the surrounding area as part of our work across London and the South East. FAQs for Lower Halstow

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Lower Halstow?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

Is Lower Halstow within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.

Can you give me structural calculations?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and do not carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Light rain doesn’t normally stop a survey. Strong wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so if conditions are not right we’ll arrange another day with you.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.

Do I need to be at home?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Why act early in Lower Halstow

What we can’t see

  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • A structural engineer’s report

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.
