They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, like old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone is not the right tool, we’ll say so. We survey tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and lifted or split lead flashings.

In a village or hamlet like Lower Rainham, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Why get it checked now?

It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photographs of every part we can see. That helps you put the work in order. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Lower Rainham, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Lower Rainham

Lower Rainham is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

If you live in an older home near Church of St Margaret, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Historic houses like Restoration House, about 4.7 miles west, show how far back building around Lower Rainham goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition. Anyone responsible for a site like Thames View Primary School will know that big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

The survey, step by step

The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes an hour or two for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a small place like Lower Rainham, access is typically the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Advice

FAQs for Lower Rainham

Will you come out to Lower Rainham?

Yes. Lower Rainham is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Is my home in Lower Rainham listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.

What does a roof survey cost?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, confirmed before anything is booked.

Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?

We are. Our Flyer ID and Operator ID come from the CAA, and the drone itself is under 250g, kept within sight on every flight.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Lower Rainham?

The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Let us know the address and a little about the roof. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Tips that help

Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Check there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Let us know the exact address as you book
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

We email the report to you, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Do not block the vents at the eaves. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Check insulation does not block the airflow.

What we look for on each type of roof

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We don’t test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

Can I check my roof myself?

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.
