Drone roof survey in Matching Tye, Essex
Not sure what state the roof is in? We carry out drone roof surveys in Matching Tye and across Essex, with plain-English findings.
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Wind damage high on the roof
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
What you can safely check yourself
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Drone roof survey in Matching Tye: what you get
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see inside. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, since that is where leaks and condensation often show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. Common reasons to book are wind damage high on the roof and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, across chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.
In a village or hamlet like Matching Tye, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover
It’s useful to know what a survey won’t do before booking:
- A structural engineer’s report
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
Leave it or get it looked at?
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. Outbuildings and barns around Matching Tye are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you’d like to know.

Tips that help
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
There’s a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year, and whether work has done its job.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
What happens on the day
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as Matching Tye, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- You give us the address and tell us about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Let us know about parking before the day
- Check the loft hatch can be reached

FAQs for Matching Tye
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Matching Tye?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Do you cover smaller places like Matching Tye?
Yes, Matching Tye is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest.
What’s in the survey report?
Written findings with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
How long does a drone roof survey take?
Allow about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. We’ll give you an idea of timing when booking.
What if my home is near an airport?
Flight restriction zones around protected airports need permission from the airport or air traffic control before any flight. We check your address and ask for permission where it’s required. If it isn’t given, we inspect by other means.
Will you photograph next door’s garden?
The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring gardens or windows. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. If your roof is shared, it helps to tell your neighbours about the visit.
What we’re asked to look at in Matching Tye
Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.
Look out for signs like these:
- Hidden gutters full of leaves
- Damage after a storm that cannot be seen from below
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
If you live in an older home near Parish Church of St Mary, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
- What insurance they carry
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
- How long the report takes to arrive
