Drone roof survey in Matching: what you get

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there’s safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that is where leaks and condensation often show first. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. If you’ve noticed flat roofs on upper floors that hold water and ridge and hip pieces working loose, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Villages like Matching frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Matching?

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top

Take an older house close to Parish Church of St Mary: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • Will the report include photos?
  • Their track record with similar roofs

Matching: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Matching?

Yes, Matching is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is my home in Matching listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

How experienced are you?

We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, and it’s agreed before booking.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.

What happens next?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

How long does a drone roof survey take?

It normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. That includes the checks before the drone goes up.

DIY checks: what’s safe

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

What we do, step by step

We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Cottages and farmhouses around Matching often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

How to prepare

  • Check pets are kept safely away
  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch

Advice

When you need someone else

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.
