Drone roof survey in Merstham, Surrey
Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach across Merstham, using drones and thermal imaging where it applies. Get in touch for a price.
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
- Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
What happens if roof problems are left?
From the ground, you’re guessing about most of a tall roof. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

How a drone roof survey works in Merstham
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. Where there is safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that’s where leaks and condensation often show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. Typical surveys look at slates or tiles shifted by high winds and ridge and hip pieces working loose, on chimney stacks, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.
Some older homes in villages like Merstham are listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
Drone roof surveys in Merstham: local notes
Merstham is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around Redhill Aerodrome. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
If you look after a building such as Merstham Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to Church of St Katharine: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near The Belfry, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof.

FAQs for Merstham
Is my home in Merstham listed or in a conservation area?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will you come out to Merstham?
Yes, Merstham is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
How soon will I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed.
What do I do with the report?
You’ll receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
What’s in the report?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.
Before and after the survey
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Tell us the exact address as you book
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.
Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Merstham
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs, which helps you plan work between tenancies.

What happens on the day
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. After that, we check everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where it applies. The survey normally takes about one to two hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Rural addresses near Merstham can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Let us know where we can park nearby
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
